Welcome to the Bug Barn at Attwell Farm Park

Discover the World of Invertebrates

With the recent introduction of our Bug Barn, we have expanded our offerings, providing visitors with an extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in the captivating world of invertebrates. Our Bug Barn houses over 40 exotic and domestic invertebrate species, making it one of the largest and most impressive displays of its kind in Central England.

Join our Resident Explorer, Paul Carpenter, who has ventured into the Amazon rainforests, Africa, and various remote regions across Southeast Asia, uncovering new species of spiders along the way. This unique behind-the-scenes morning will offer an intimate and educational glimpse into the lives of our fascinating invertebrate residents, including the Goliath Tarantula, Madagascar Orb-Weaving Spiders, Leaf Insects, and even Poison Dart Frogs, such as the Golden Poison Dart Frog, the most toxic land animal.

Educational Experiences at the Bug Barn

At Attwell Farm Park, we recognise the invaluable role insects play in our ecosystem. Our Bug Barn exhibits are meticulously designed to educate visitors about insect conservation, habitats, and the fascinating life within the Rainforest. These exhibits offer engaging educational experiences that align with school curriculums, enabling teachers to seamlessly incorporate our interactive displays into their lesson plans.

Our exhibits are thoughtfully crafted to connect with various aspects of the school curriculum. By integrating our displays into their teaching, educators can enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts, such as biodiversity, ecology, and environmental science. This hands-on learning approach helps to foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the critical roles insects play within it.

Enhancing Understanding Through Interaction

Visitors to the Bug Barn can expect to participate in interactive activities that bring the world of invertebrates to life. Whether it's observing the behaviour of the Goliath Tarantula, understanding the intricate webs of Madagascar Orb-Weaving Spiders, or learning about the delicate balance of ecosystems through the study of Leaf Insects and Poison Dart Frogs, these experiences are designed to be both educational and captivating.

Conservation Efforts

In addition to educational experiences, our Bug Barn is actively involved in conservation efforts for invertebrate species identified as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. Our breeding initiatives help preserve these fragile species for future generations. This commitment to conservation not only underscores our dedication to environmental sustainability but also allows us to offer truly immersive hands-on experiences to schools and groups.

Inspiring Future Generations

By providing interactive and educational opportunities for students ranging from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3, we extend our reach and appeal in the education sector. Our goal is to inspire and engage young minds, nurturing a sense of wonder and respect for the natural world.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Bug Barn and providing an unforgettable educational experience.
