Emus

Meet our eccentric emus

Meet our eccentric emus

Our emus have been part of Attwell Farm Park since 2018, and we have two of these fascinating birds roaming our paddocks. Unlike many of our other animals, the emus stay outside all year round, enjoying their space along the Paddock Walk. With their long legs, curious nature, and unique sounds, they’re always a talking point for visitors!

If you get up close, you might hear a deep, drumming noise coming from them—this is how female emus communicate! They have a special air sac in their throat that allows them to make these booming sounds, which can be heard from quite a distance.

Where Can You See Them?

🌿 All Year Round – Our emus don’t mind the British weather! You’ll always find them out in their paddock, exploring and keeping an eye on visitors.

🦆 Males are the Super Dads! – In the wild, male emus take care of the eggs, sitting on them for around 8 weeks without eating much, and then raising the chicks on their own.

🦆 They Can’t Fly! – Emus are flightless birds, but they make up for it with powerful legs that allow them to cover great distances quickly.
