Meet Our Free-Range Egg-Laying Chickens at the Farm
Our 50 free-range laying chickens love spending their days roaming their paddock, scratching at the ground, and foraging for tasty treats. Their coop is located next to the cattle barn, and if you take a stroll along the Paddock Walk, youโre sure to spot them exploring! Some of our more adventurous hens even like to wander into the cattle barn and along the farmโs paths, so keep an eye out for these cheeky escapees.
As the sun sets, the chickens naturally return to their coop on their own, settling into their favorite roosting spots for the night. The nesting boxes on the side of the coop provide a safe, enclosed space for them to lay their eggsโjust like they would instinctively do in the wild to protect their eggs from predators.
We collect fresh eggs daily and sell them in our farm shop, so you can take home some delicious, farm-fresh free-range eggs!
๐ Paddock Walk & Cattle Barn โ Youโll find our chickens roaming around their paddock and sometimes sneaking into the cattle barn! Look out for them scratching at the ground or perching in their coop.
๐ฅ How Many Eggs? โ On average, a hen lays one egg per day, though this can vary based on breed, age, and season.
๐ก Why Nesting Boxes? โ Hens naturally seek out a quiet, secure place to lay their eggs. Nesting boxes provide warmth, comfort, and safety.
๐ Early to Bed, Early to Rise โ Chickens follow the natural daylight cycle, waking up with sunrise and heading to roost as it gets dark.
๐ Back in the Day... โ Attwell Farm Park once had up to 500,000 laying hens, making Mike Attwell the 7th biggest egg producer in the UK during the 1990s! Today, our small free-range flock carries on the farmโs egg-laying tradition on a much smaller and friendlier scale.
