Meet Dobby and Buckbeak
Dobby and Buckbeak, our resident chinchillas, are full of energy and curiosity! Dobby, the older of the two, has a soft grey coat, while Buckbeak, the younger, is sleek black. They arrived at Attwell Farm Park on the 13th of February 2025 and have settled into their cosy enclosure filled with tunnels, platforms, and wooden toys. These playful little creatures are most active in the evening, when they love to dart around and explore their space.
π Petting Barn β You can find Dobby and Buckbeak in the Petting Barn, where they live in a large pen designed with plenty of enrichment to keep them active and engaged. Watch as they hop, climb, and take their signature dust baths!
π From the Andes Mountains β Chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera) are native to the rocky slopes of the Andes in South America, where they hide in burrows to stay safe.
π§Ό Super Soft Fur β They have the densest fur of any land mammal, which keeps them warm but means they must stay dry! Instead of water baths, they roll in fine volcanic ash to keep clean.
π₯ Special Diet β Dobby and Buckbeak enjoy a diet of hay, chinchilla pellets, and occasional treats like dried herbs or rose hips.
π¨ Speedy and Agile β Chinchillas are incredible jumpers and can leap up to six feet in a single bound!
π Most Active at Night β As nocturnal animals, they love to play and explore in the evening.
